Magical evening in Italian Hills

It had been a magical day in the Veneto, so enchanting that I could never have imagined it could get any better, but it did.

Half way up Monte Venda there’s a natural amphitheatre where they have outdoor concerts in summer. Last night there was a picnic and wine tasting followed by traditional music supplied by the Orchestra of the Dolomites, 18 musicians with twice as many instruments, including bagpipes, mandolins, a portable harmonium, a zither,a harp, lutes…. The view behind the stage was of twinkling lights down below on the flat plain looking towards Venice. We sat on cushions, about 150 of us, clapping and enjoying the atmosphere, unwilling to go home along the narrow steep road to the valley.
