The BBC is or was a fine institution, but its values have been completely skewed in recent weeks. First we have the “resignation” of Entwistle, awarded the £450,000 payment normally paid following a sacking. Then we have by comparison an agreed payment to Lord McAlpine of £185,000 for the disgraceful Newsnight expose. Which, I wonder is worse, and who deserves the greater compensation?
Of course the final outrage is that in any case, as we’re all paying for the BBC, it is our money which is paying for their mistakes.
