Italian Jam and European Regulations

Why have our newspapers been filled recently with the latest regulations from Brussels banning the re-use of jam jars? Answer: because we’re an obedient nation and although it will undermine the glorious jam and Jerusalem tradition, we’ll probably comply.

But will the Italians? Not a chance. They already totally ignore the ban on dangerous wood-fired pizza ovens. They won’t eat pizzas cooked any other way. As for the thousands of jars of jams and pickles produced following every glut throughout the year, it will all continue as usual, probably without even knowing there’s a ban. (I’ve never seen it in the papers or on TV.)
