Letter from Prince Charles!

Last time I ate at my favourite restaurant in the Euganean Hills, the waitress told me I’d chosen Prince Charles’s seat. It turns out that he visits friends in the area to paint watercolours and had the good taste to choose La Pergola for a meal. As I’d been re-reading his book on architecture at the time, it struck me as a coincidence and on impulse I wrote to him, using it as an opportunity to let him know about the Canal Museum and its recent twinning. (The canal, which you can see in the picture above, runs right past the villa where he stays.)

A couple of months went by and I received a rather important-looking letter from the man himself, congratulating all those concerned on saving the museum by twinning it with Stoke Bruerne (of which, amazingly, he turns out to be Patron.)
