Museum not only Saved, but Expanding!

“Ciao, stella!”

Yes, it’s Riccardo again, ringing me from Italy and shouting at me because I’m foreign and have difficulty understanding.

I hold the receiver away from my ear and attempt to decipher what he’s telling me.

Things are apparently going well at the Museum of Navigation and they’re all very excited about the prospect of a group of them visiting England to celebrate the twinning of canal museums. I regard this with somewhat less enthusiasm. They want to meet in Stoke Bruerne, and the logistics of getting them there present only one of many headaches, not least that nobody speaks a word of English.

Meanwhile, the latest news is that on the strength of the Navigation Museum being saved for posterity by yours truly, a boat-making family from further down the Venetian Lagoon have decided to donate the entire contents of their boatyard.
